First Friday Opening of 'War and Pieced'

War and Pieced Quilt by Annette Gero

First Friday Opening of 'War and Pieced'

Friday, June 1, 2018

Join us for free admission to the gallery and light refreshments from 4-7 p.m. in conjunction to Lincoln’s First Friday Artwalk.

At 5:30 p.m., Curator of Collections Carolyn Ducey will give a lecture on “War and Pieced: The Annette Gero Collection of Quilts from Military Fabrics.” This exhibition is a showcase of the spectacularly complex geometric quilts made exclusively by men using the richly dyed wools from British military and dress uniforms. Once termed “soldiers” or “convalescent” quilts, these textiles are most closely associated with the Crimean War and conflicts in India, South America and other troubled regions in the 19th Century British Empire.
