While at first glance these mules appear to be mirror images of one another, each reveals individual characteristics: the eyes, ears, hooves, and body shapes of the mules are all slightly different. Separated by gold and red bars, each hand-pieced mule is standing in its own colorful one-patch "field" composed of a wide variety of fabrics: knits, prints, and solids. The mule motif is often found in Mary Maxtion quilts, including five variations in the Cargo Collection of the International Quilt Study Center.
