Project Pincushion

Friends of the International Quilt Study Center and Museum is proud to announce PROJECT PINCUSHION, a fun and creative way for sewers from all over the world to support IQSCM. No matter where in the world you live, you can participate by donating a handmade pincushion to the IQSCM for sale to benefit the Quilt House.
Fun fact: Tradition has it that in the Victorian Era, a tomato would be placed on the mantel to welcome a new neighbor. When tomatoes were out of season, a cloth tomato stuffed with sawdust would be substituted.  Needles and pins were quite expensive and prized, so they would be displayed stuck into the tomato.  There is little to verify this “tradition," but we do know that countless tomato pincushions were made and are used to this day, along with the little emery-filled strawberry.
For PROJECT PINCUSHION, Friends is asking everyone to put on their creative cap and make 1, 2, 3, or more pincushions to donate to the museum. Any size, shape, or color will be welcome. All forms of needlework are welcome: sewing, crochet, knitting, cross stitch, needlepoint. The pincushions will be sold in the IQSCM gift shop and at special museum events, such as Art Market with all proceeds of the pincushion sales going directly toward bringing future exhibits to Quilt House.
Follow us on Facebook and visit the Friends blog (soon to be established) for tips on making pincushions and design ideas, and to see what other sewers have contributed.
Whether you are a member of a large guild or quilting bee, or an individual, you can support IQSCM by making and sending your pincushions to:
