Public Lecture: "Mutual Admiration: Collectors and Artists" by Michael James
Wednesday, 2/15/12 at 3:30 PM
Description: Michael James, internationally renowned studio quilter and chair of UNL's Department of Textiles, Clothing and Design, will talk about collectors and collecting and their relationships and value to the artists whose works they collect. In the quilt world, the real collector is a fairly rare phenomenon and consequently the impact of collectors has been fairly limited but nonetheless important. Ardis and Robert James are two who mattered, almost certainly more than any other individuals in this domain. Their purchases over the years from living artists such as James contributed to the coalescence of the so-called "art quilt movement" and helped numerous artists to sustain viable studio careers.
