Quilts have always been a family affair for Robert and Ardis James and their children and grandchildren. Robert and Ardis are best known for the comprehensive international collection they built, which now resides at the International Quilt Study Center & Museum. Ardis, however, was also a prolific quiltmaker who made quilts by hand for many of her family members. The recipients, in turn, grew to appreciate quilts both the ones created by Ardis and the ones she and Robert collected from all over the world.
In celebration of our museum's tenth anniversary, we share some of the private pieces that give a glimpse into the ways in which quilts bind the James family together.
