Chance Encounter: The Quilts of Emiko Toda Loeb

After immigrating to the U.S. in the late 1970s, Emiko Toda Loeb encountered quilts and discovered that they were her ideal artistic expression. She creates complex works with a variety of global fabrics—Japanese and otherwise—often employing the unique reversible Log Cabin technique she developed. Featuring a range of geometric and biomorphic shapes, Toda Loeb's quilts are a meditation on the range of novel, artistic forms a traditional technique such as quiltmaking can take.
