VISIT THE MUSEUM

Experiences with original works of art can supply context for the study of a topic and can inspire further study in students. The International Quilt Study Center & Museum and Museum offers guided docent tours to help connect students with quilts.

You may choose a focus of either Quilts as History or Quilts as Art for a 45-60 minute guided tour. A trained docent will guide students through our galleries. Docents adapt tours to the grade level of the students.

Quilts As History focuses on the history and stories told by the quilts on display, using these artifacts as rich objects of material culture.

Quilts as Art provides interactive discussion of quiltmaking as a creative medium, using the elements and principles of design.

Students will also learn about basic quiltmaking techniques and, as time allows, have an opportunity to use our virtual gallery to design their own quilts, explore the Quilt History timeline, and record their own quilt stories.
