Roberta Jemison of Greene County, Alabama, incorporates both new and re-used fabrics in her quilts. The soft, faded denim fabric that creates the diagonal "railroad crossings" evokes images of a weathered fence separating the viewer from the bold fields behind it. Fabric on the reverse of the quilt injects a humorous note: a bright Batman panel is used.

Roberta Jemison is a prolific quilter who works alongside her sister-in-law Mary Maxtion and neighbor Lureca Outland. However, each of these artists -- all of whom are represented in the IQSC's Robert and Helen Cargo Collection -- maintains a unique vision and voice.
