Susan Shie is a storyteller whose quilts evoke play, curiosity and joy. Layered with fabrics, paint, stitches and drawings, her exuberant quilts intrigue and delight viewers.
"The Calendar Fetish" is a working calendar, able to accurately portray time, month by month, until the year 3332. Each date holds a pocket into which pieces signifying different events may be tucked. The pieces include reminders like "Important Meeting," "Groundhog Day," "Wonderful Pay Day" and "Deadline." The pieces are buttoned over a background that includes Shie's signature combination of fabric paint, embroidery and unusual fabrics.
