Perspectives: Art, Craft, Design, & the Studio Quilt Exhibition
Calm, yet subtle movement plays across the surface of "Wind Over Water" by Pauline Burbidge. Narrow panes dividing the surface provide a sense of both inner and outer space and give the impression of looking through a window at the fluid ripples on a pond created by a soft spring breeze.
"Wind over Water" is one of the International Quilt Study Center's acquisitions of contemporary studio art quilts. Pauline Burbidge is an internationally-recognized UK artist working in the quilt medium. Her career as a studio art quilter began with an accidental encounter with an old quilting book at a thrift store in 1975 when she was a fashion/textile designer. She has explored the subject of water reflections, as seen in this quilt, since the 1990s. The IQSC has another five of her earlier works in geometric forms using vibrant colors.
