Faculty

Faculty for the courses offered at the International Quilt Study Center & Museum come from around the country and the world. Courses are led by members of the UNL Textiles, Clothing and Design faculty, other UNL departments and academics and scholars from other institutions and specialties.

    Visiting Faculty who have taught Summer Courses include:


    Dr. Janet Berlo is Professor of Art History and Susan B. Anthony Professor of Gender Studies at University of Rochester, New York. She is published widely including the award-winning book, Wild by Design: Two Hundred Years of Innovation and Artistry in American Quilts (University of Washington Press, 2003)


    Dr. Margaret Ordonez is Professor, Dept. of Textiles, Fashion Merchandising and Design, University of Rhode Island, where she teaches courses in textile conservation and historic textiles and costume. Her research interests include archaeological textiles and problems in the conservation of historic textiles and costumes. She co-edited the book Down By the Old Mill Stream: Quilts in Rhode Island with Linda Welters. She also manages the Textile Conservation Laboratory and the Textile Gallery at URI.


    Dr. Virginia Gunn is Professor of Clothing, Textiles, and Interiors at The University of Akron, where she teaches courses in historic costume, history of fashion, history of interior design, textile conservation, and material-culture studies. She is curator of the University's historic costume and textile collection. She served on the board of directors of the American Quilt Study Group for ten years and as president from 1990 to 1993. She was the editor of Uncoverings, the annual volume of research papers for AQSG, from 1994 to 2003.


    Dr. Linda Welters, is Professor and Chair, Dept. of Textiles, Fashion Merchandising and Design, University of Rhode Island. She served as Editor-in-Chief of Dress (Journal of the Costume Society of America) from 1998-2002.


    Ms. Xenia Cord is owner of Legacy Quilts, an antique quilts brokerage, historian and writer,partner and producer of Quilt America, a national convention for quilters held annually in Indianapolis from 1990-2000; and newly elected president of American Quilt Study Group.


    Ms. Merikay Waldvogel (Knoxville, Tennessee) is a nationally known quilt authority with books, exhibitions, articles and television appearances to her credit.
